Does my child need to have an assessment?

Assessments are essential to get a baseline of your child's current speech, language and communication needs

In most cases we recommend an assessment. The assessment supports the therapist to develop a care plan but can also be useful for yourself and your child’s school as it provides strategies to support your child. In some cases, we don’t need a full assessment, for example if you have one from within the last 6 months which the therapist feels contains enough information or if your child is very young. There are also some instances for older children where the only concern is a mild speech production difficulty, so a full assessment isn’t required. Your therapist will advise you if an assessment is needed in the initial consultation session.
