Does my child's school have to know we are accessing speech and language therapy?

We understand that in some circumstances you may prefer to keep speech and language input away from school

You are in control, the therapist will only speak to your child’s school setting with your express permission. In an ideal world, the therapist would work in collaboration with school. This is to ensure your child's needs are being supported both at home and in school and to answer any questions from the support staff working with your child. The therapist may wish to speak to your child's teacher to learn more about your child’s behaviour in different situations. They are likely to question your child’s presentation in different lessons and ask for teacher observations on their play levels and levels of language in order to inform their assessment and intervention.

If you would prefer the therapist doesn't speak to school, that's no problem, just let us know.
