Find Your Computers Microphone Settings

Most microphone settings can be changed from within Mable, but occasionally you'll want to know where your system settings are.

Windows Computer

  1. Open up the Start menu by clicking on the Windows Icon in the bottom left corner of the screen or pressing the ‘win’ button on your keyboard.
  2. When the menu opens, start typing ‘Sound’ on the keyboard and open the sound control panel.
  3. On the sound settings page, click ‘Recording’.
  4. Click on the microphone and click ‘Properties’.
  5. Now select ‘Levels’ from the properties menu.
  6. You should now see a volume control, which is represented by the number in the input box. If this is 0, this means the microphone volume is turned all the way down.
  7. To the right of the volume control is a sound icon. If there is a red circle with a line through next to the sound icon, this means the microphone is muted. Click this icon to unmute your microphone.

Chrome OS/Chromebook

  1. Click on the menu bar in the bottom right of the computer screen, where it displays the time, internet connection and battery status of your Chromebook.
  2. This will open a small menu containing a speaker/audio icon. Next to the speaker/audio icon is the volume control.
  3. Make sure the volume control slider is all the way to the right.

Mac /Apple Computer

  1. Open System Settings and select Sound. You can quickly open this by pressing Cmd + Space, typing “Sound”, and pressing Enter.
  2. Select the Input tab or menu.
  3. Choose the microphone you want to use from the list of devices.
  4. Under Input Volume, make sure the volume slider is turned up.
  5. Ensure the microphone is not muted.
