If you are using headphones, here are a few quick tips.
Headphone Plug Types
The plug on your headphones, will be one of the following:
- A single headphone mini jack, which looks like a normal headphone plug.
- One with 2 headphone mini jacks, one of which will be a microphone.
- A USB plug ( a small flat rectangular plug ).
Single Headphone Plug
To use a pair of headphones all you need to do is plug the headphones into the headphone socket on your computer. If you are unsure what the socket looks like, look for a circular socket, which is a similar size to the headphone plug. This could have a small picture of headphones next to it or with some older computers, may be green.
Headphones With a Microphone and Two Plugs
- If the cable on your headphones is split at the end and has two plugs, one will be for a microphone. It is quite common for the microphone plug to be pink and the normal headphones plug to be green.
- To use these headphones for the sound, plug the one which is for the headphones ( which maybe green ), into the headphones socket on your computer. This socket may also be green or have a picture of some headphones next to it. If your computer only has one headphone socket, this will be the correct one for the sound but means you are unable to use the microphone as well.
USB Plug
- If your headphones has a USB plug, this will need to be plugged into any USB socket on your computer. This socket will be the same shape as the plug and most computers will have at least 2 USB sockets. Headphones with this type of plug, will often also have microphone.
Headphone Splitter
- If you would like a Teacher or Teaching Assistant to listen in on a Mable session, you can use the headphone splitter that comes in your Mable Box, or one that you already have.
- The headphone splitter will allow sound to come out of two pairs of headphones. To use it, simply plug each pair of headphones into the plugs on the splitter and the other end into the headphone socket on your computer.
- Please be aware, you cannot use the Mable headphone splitter with headphones that have a USB Plug.
