What is Speech & Language Therapy?

Speech and Language therapy sessions take place in a safe and non-judgmental environment where pupils can learn and discuss their communication issues openly. 

There are many reasons a pupil may be recommended for speech and language therapy assessment and treatment. Here is a list of common presentations which can benefit from speech and language therapy: 

Attention and Listening 

Difficulty concentrating and listening, hearing impairment, auditory processing disorder, working memory difficulties. 

Developmental language disorders

Word retrieval problems,  Vocabulary delay, issues with syntax, morphology and grammar

Social communication disorders 

Interpreting other people’s communication, frequent conversational breakdowns, difficulty communicating effectively in group environments. Selective mutism and anxiety around communicating.
