Tech Test Webcam Issues

No Cameras Shown

If there are no camera devices shown in the list and you are using an external web camera ( one that isn’t built into the computer), first check that the camera is connected correctly to your computer. If you have either unplugged or plugged the camera in after you mid-way through the tech test, make sure you plug the camera in and then refresh the page and start the test again.

Camera View Is Black or Not Visible

If you have selected your web camera and the camera view ( which is on the camera tech-test page ) is black if your camera is an external camera, which is not built into your computer. Try unplugging the camera, plugging it back into the computer, and then restarting the tech test. It is also possible that your external camera is not compatible with your computer, especially if it is an old camera. If you try another computer, which has the same operating system ( software ) version as the one you’re on, it may not be compatible. If your camera is built into your computer, try restarting your computer. Click here if you're unsure how to restart your computer.

If you have tried all of the above steps and you're still having issues, try another application on your computer, which uses a webcam to see if the issue is with Google Chrome or with your webcam. If you have a windows computer then you can use their pre-installed 'Camera' app. If you're using an Apple Computer you can use the 'FaceTime' app. If you're using a Chrome Computer then you can use the 'Camera' app. If you try another application, which uses the camera and it is also not working in that app, you should try reinstalling or updating the webcam software on your computer. Click here for an easy to follow guide on how to do this on your computer. If you are not comfortable following the guide then please get a member of your IT department to help you.
